Top 3 – CFDA 2014

Mission statement pulled from the CFDA website:

The Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc. (CFDA) is a not-for-profit trade association whose membership consists of more than 400 of America’s foremost womenswear, menswear, jewelry and accessory designers.

The CFDA foundation, Inc. is a separate not-for-profit organization, which was created to raise funds for charity and industry activities.

I have two favorites and then one that everyone seems to be talking about. Let’s begin!

[Coco Rocha and Blake Lively from New York Magazine]

I don’t know what it is about this dress and maybe because it is also worn by Coco Rocha, a model, but I really love this on her. When I chose to pick Ms. Rocha’s image out of the many it was because it stood out and not in a garish or inappropriate way. I love the black that trails down the dress, or up depending on perspective, but it looks classically devilsh. I also love that Ms. Rocha is never afraid to wear so many different shades of color on her lips. I also love that hat and that it is not a simple hat, it has shape and dimension.

My sister, The Christine Life, actually did a post on Blake Lively here. I personally love this because it is a nod to the 60’s but also because Ms. Lively has such a way of presenting what she is wearing as if it is effortless. My favorite part is that the dress has a scalloped edge and the nude shoes just help elongate her legs. Plus, who doesn’t love that hair?! I am not too keen on the bangles but they definitely work with the outfit.

Those were my two favorite dresses of the night, for different reasons. I don’t have a third one but there is one that has been getting a lot of buzz…

[Rihanna from Glamour]

Of course, we cannot leave out the most talked about dress of the night. Rihanna wore a dress that has, if I am not mistaken, over 230,000 swarovski crystals on her dress. I honestly have no problem with the dress but I think I would have preferred her to cover her breasts with something. I actually didn’t realize she was naked because from behind it looks like she has a nude undress that matches her skin tone. Wrong. I like this dress though but would hope that if it were every manufactured (probably not) that it would have a nude lining.
