Word of the Month: Compote

Compote: fruit stewed or cooked in a syrup, usually served as a dessert. [Dictionary]

Compote is an interesting concept because there is a lot that you can do with it. I find that when I see compote being made that it is for a dessert but it actually looks like something I would also eat for breakfast (not that I eat it too often) with toast.

Since summer is upon us, why not try a Quick Summer Compote? This recipe is super simple and has a lot of room to add different flavor notes and fruit of your choice. This is a cool compote so you can store it in the refrigerator or freezer, definitely a great option for those hot summer days and nights.

A Mixed Berry Compote is really nice if you just want something warm, generally how compote is served, and they have recommendations of eating this with pound cake or raspberry torte. I think I would love this on cheesecake.

I think we all know why I chose Peach Compote, right? I love peaches and for all of you who are not too crazy about too many fruits combined, this one is for you. I love that this a little more earthy with ingredients and although it might take longer than the others, it really won’t be that much more.

Remember that compote is a pretty fast dish to make but depending on which you pick it can vary with wait time.
