Guardians of the Galaxy follows the story of Peter Quill, aka Starlord, who was taken at a young age by a spaceship and grew up as a thief for hire, basically, and comes across something that can destroy many. Peter ends up getting imprisoned with Gamora, Rocket, Groot, and Drax. All five of them grow relationships from essentially hating each other or out for their own gain to protecting each other.
I think that this is something that I will basically go over the characters because the plot of the story was outweighed, in a good way, by the characters and their personalities. This movie is hilarious and has a lot of heart to it.
Peter Quill, Starlord: Funny. Sassy. Smart. Peter Quill is a rebellious character that can really be seen as idiotic to everyone else but he generally has a plan, even if has a low percentage of working. Since the start of the movie when he is dancing and lip syncing to the music is one of my favorite scenes. He is a playboy and he isn’t afraid to share that to the world, or even hide it when he is found out.
Gamora: Okay, I know that I should be shouting “GIRL POWER” or something but her story line was lacking for me. I didn’t find myself attaching to her character like the others and her story line also seemed like a “been-there-done-that” kind of thing where it was overused. I mean, you can’t change a story but I am hoping that the next movie will help me like her even more. I think that she had some really good lines though that were really funny.
Rocket: At first I wasn’t crazy about the little guy but he grew on me when he got drunk and said what he did (no spoiling here!) which made me empathize with him. Not to mention that he really has a soft heart on the inside and is extremely smart, even when he can be reckless.
Groot: My favorite character, by far, because he is the one tree that will steal your heart almost instantly. I love that even with a small vocabulary that he captures your attention with his actions. Seriously, the most adorable tree ever and yes, I cried when something happened, and I love him even more.
Drax: He comes in like a wrecking ball, cue Miley, and he really steals your attention because you root for him to gain justice for his wife and all of that even when he goes about it the wrong way. He also has no sense of humor so any kind that Starlord would say would be taken seriously.
A really good lighthearted movie that I think everyone will enjoy because there isn’t some over-sexualized female or foul language (not as far as I can remember) and will make you fall into the Marvel Universe farther.
