There are stereotypes for a reason and that is where society has gone wrong. We judge people by the way that they look, the way that they talk, the color of their skin. You do it, I do it and although it is not something that we think about it is something that our subconscious does for us. I don’t like to judge people, my father does, he instantly thinks all races are the same just because someone of that same race has done something wrong. Once he knows a small bit of information, like someone who takes drugs and years later they die with no known cause at the moment, he immediately says they are a drug addict and died because of that.
I don’t like to assume anything because it isn’t my place, it isn’t my business, and it is wrong to just say such inconsiderate things after a death. It is inconsiderate and racist to assume that African Americans are all bad, all people from Iraq or Iran or anywhere in the Middle East are terrorists.
I hate that my dad thinks that the place I am interning is a bad neighborhood. I was left at a restaurant and the feeling of that place was worse for me, personally, than standing outside in the open outside of my work place.
What I am trying to get across in this post is that there are people who are really not bad but they put on the facade or act like they know it all when really they are curious.
We see with our eyes and that is our first impression, in reality, since we may just go on in passing and never talk so all we know about that person is what they wear, what they are doing, who they are with, etc. Superficial things.
If you see someone who dresses poorly and shows a lot of skin does not mean that they are whores or sluts as people on the internet like to say when someone is wearing something a little more showy like a mini skirt or halter top that has an open back or a bralette and maxi skirt. All clothes mean is that it is that person’s style or they are that comfortable in their body. You shouldn’t judge someone on that. I am not perfect by any means because I have looked at people and wondered why they are dressed a certain way…like baggy jeans. What bothers me is men who wear their pants down to their knees because that is just ridiculous but I won’t judge you as a person, just your style sense in showing your butt to the world…thankfully, I think that trend is slowly disappearing but I could be wrong. I think that maybe it makes them feel cool? I don’t think that it is cool to show your boxers to the world but if it makes you happy then go for it.
I hope that if you read this that you will take what a person wears or how they present themselves to the world with a grain of salt because you don’t know them or what they have gone through to get to where they are now. None of us can be non-judgmental but we can at least try to be because the world is a better place if we stopped putting each other down because of our looks.
