Let’s Review…About Time

Available on:

About Time is about a man, Tim (Domhall Gleeson) who finds out from his father (Bill Nighy) that he is a time traveler and as long as he travels in certain perimeters, he can change the start of a relationship from fumbling through a conversation to being suave and mysterious.  Tim falls in love with a woman named Mary (Rachel McAdams) and constantly goes back in time so that he can fall in love with her “properly” without awkwardness.

At first, I was not on board with this movie and what I mean by that is that Rachel McAdams (amazing actress) is always cast in love stories and I realize that is her niche but I loved her in Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. I thought about this movie and at first glance it looks like a mix of The Notebook and The Time Traveler’s Wife (both of which McAdams acted in). I decided to watch it with my sister and before the movie started I said that it was either going to be Mary (McAdams) or Tim’s (Gleeson) father, Nighy. There were definitely moments of familial love and it had some great comedy aspects which gave me the chance to connect to Tim and understand that there are things that we can’t change in the end.

After watching the movie, it was sad, but it was really nothing new and really is a hybrid between The Notebook and The Time Traveler’s Wife.

MyRating: 3/5
