First off, if you have text messaging or even email, you should sign up for Redbox because they can give you free codes every now and then or BOGO like I did to get these two movies for the night.
The Mortal Instruments
The reason I wanted to watch this movie is because I read the books and also I loved Lily Collins in The Blind Side. So, hearing about her in this movie my first thought was that “her hair better be red!” Not to say that it not being flaming red would deter me from watching it but I wanted to see it. So, the movie rolls around and it practically bombs from what I heard. Aside from that I still want to watch this movie.
I have to say that I can understand why it bombed…the whole concept seemed to go out the window…there were plenty of holes that I felt needed to be filled in. They made Hodge look like an agoraphobic backstabbing man and there is much more depth to him, I believe. I also think that the relationship between Clary and Jace needed to be worked on a little more…where are the books that they slip each other? I think that the way they portrayed the movie was super quick. *SPOILER* I also think that the big scene where you find they are really siblings didn’t really help because they already exposed that they were not really siblings, just a plan. I didn’t like that. In the books, that is all you have, they are siblings. However, here you as the viewer are already given that information when you don’t really find out until the second book.
Overall I would give this movie a 2/5. Don’t get me wrong, I will watch it if it is on the television but I won’t be purchasing it because it wasn’t that great of a movie.
Stuck in Love
Basically I had a Lily Collins movie duo as she also starred in this. I also LOVE Greg Kinnear since I watched The Last Song. This movie was very raw and real to me. I think that any family can relate to this on one level or another but I would. The characters have their own troubles and yet the family matters that they are going through influence their lives more than they know. Not to mention that this revolved around books, essentially, and I love it. I think that not giving everyone a fairytale happy ending was smart and, in reality, gave them a real one.
Overall I would give this movie a 3/5.
